Cinematography is the craft of capturing moving images so they support the story. It is not only “owning a camera.” It includes camera choice, lens, lighting, framing, camera movement, and how those choices stay consistent from the first setup to the grade.
People and gear
On a set the cinematographer works with the director. They may hire a camera operator, gaffer, and DIT. Equipment comes from the DP’s kit or from camera rental, lens rental, and lighting rental — in Nepal, often listed on CineGrid by vendors in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
You do not need a studio camera to start
Many Nepal productions mix cinema cameras, mirrorless bodies, and available light depending on budget. Match the package to the scene. If you are hiring, look at a cinematographer’s gigs. If you are renting, start with the body and the lenses that cover the shots you actually need.
